Mystery toothache came and went on Saturday and I couldn’t see a dentist

I have a mystery toothache. It comes and it goes and when it’s here it hurts like crazy. Twice I made an appointment with the dentist but the toothache went away by the time my appointment was due, so I cancelled the appointment. This past Saturday I was planning to go cart racing with some friends and the toothache hit me so bad that I was in the bed all day!  Sunday, it was gone and I was up and feeling okay again. I was hoping that if it came again, I could get right in with my dentist but the office is closed Friday through Sunday. Will the dentist be able to find the problem if the tooth isn’t throbbing at the time? – Luke T.

Luke – Whenever you are experiencing extreme pain in a tooth, consider it a dental emergency. If your dentist is not able to see you, you can find one who accepts emergency or weekend appointments.

Even if your tooth is not throbbing at the time, schedule and keep an appointment. When your tooth is examined and x-rayed, a dentist will be able to identify the cause of your pain.

You probably have an infection in your tooth. If you keep putting off the appointment, the infection will continue to spread. And you don’t want that. An untreated tooth infection can advance and become life-threatening!

Sometimes we are so busy throughout the week that pain is not as pronounced as it is on the weekend when we have time to slow down and really notice it.

Be certain to have your tooth examined and treated promptly.
