I cried on an off over the whole weekend. I have had at least 4 appointments with a cosmetic dentist who I will not name. I am supposed to be getting porcelain veneers but for some reason he just can’t get them right. I am wearing the temps and they look like beige pegs. The dentist keeps telling me not to worry because the originals will be perfect. Why am I wearing temps then? I thought this was supposed to help me get an idea of how the final veneers will look over my teeth. I am afraid that this is going to be a disaster. If I pull out now I will have to start all over and I will get charged for something that was not right from the beginning. I don’t know what to do. Help! Thank you so much. Lachelle
Lachelle – We suggest that you see an experienced cosmetic dentist—one who has and continues to receive training in cosmetic dentistry. How do you find that information? Look carefully at the websites of cosmetic dentists to find out what training they have received.
Any dentist can claim to be a cosmetic dentist, but if he or she hasn’t received the training to back it up, and hasn’t complete sufficient cases to back it up, the treatment you receive may not be what you wanted.
An experienced cosmetic dentist can examine your temporary veneers. He or she will also be able to let you know your options for getting the smile that you want. You may have to switch to another dentist to get it, but it’s important to do so before you have spent even more money and veneers are bonded to your teeth that you really don’t want.
