Punched in the jaw, is my loose tooth okay or is it a Dental emergency?

I got punched in the jaw last night. One of my bottom teeth cut my lip and the tooth still hurts. It hurts not a lot but when I brush my teeth or touch the tooth I feel pain. Also I can wiggle the tooth just a little with my fingers. I know my tooth should not be loose but will it heal by itself or will I have a problem with it later? Joel

Joel – You are correct. Your tooth should not be loose. You really need to have your tooth examined by a dentist to determine the extent of damage to it, and the best treatment for it. If you don’t have a dentist, see an emergency dentist right away.

Your tooth needs to be repositioned and stabilized so that it will heal. The dentist will check the tooth for damage and determine the best way to treat it. Getting treatment promptly makes the difference between saving the tooth or losing it completely. Saving the tooth will cost you less time and money.
