My gums and tooth are super sensitive

My gums and tooth are really sensitive. It’s a lower right molar. I had pain on and off for about two weeks. Now it hurts whenever I drink anything cold or hot. I am drinking only room temperature water now. When I eat on that side of my mouth it really hurts. I went to my doctor and she gave me antibiotics last Wednesday. This morning the pain is really bad and I am afraid that I won’t be able to eat lunch at all because of the pain. Do I need pain medication instead of the antibiotic? Patrick

Patrick – We suggest that you see your dentist right away. If your dentist is unable to see you, or if you don’t have a dentist, find one who has same-day appointments for dental emergencies.

You likely have an infection in your tooth that will progress until it’s treated. The dentist will eliminate your pain and then examine your tooth for the cause of the pain. Depending on the severity of the problem, you may need to get treated for the toothache right away.

Tooth infections can spread and make you very sick, so the sooner the problem is treated, the less damage the infection will do—and you’ll feel better, too.

This post is sponsored by Port St. Lucie dentist Dr. Aaron Schamback. Saturday appointments are available at our office.
