I wore Invisalign for 14 months. I had been wearing a retainer for about 8 months until I lost it. I found the retainer in the weirdest place today. It’s only been 2 months since I last wore it, but it doesn’t fit any more. Can I do without it or can I maybe find a set of my old Invisalign that fits better? Stan
Stan – A retainer needs to be worn for the rest of your life to keep your teeth in alignment. Without a retainer, teeth will begin drift back to their original position. During the first year after treatment, many dentists advise their patients to wear a retainer all day, every day. After the one-year period, the retainer is worn every night.
If you choose not to wear a retainer again, your investment in a beautiful smile will gradually depreciate. You need to contact your dentist to find out what needs to be done to move your teeth back to the correct position. You may need brief treatment with a few sets of Invisalign®, or a retainer may be all that is required. The sooner you see your dentist, the easier it will be to get your teeth back into alignment.
