Am I getting enough fluoride in bottled water?

I live in a community that has horrible water. I only drink bottled water. Even filtered tap water is not that safe. I am concerned about getting enough fluoride. Is bottled water giving me what I need? – Ken

Ken – Probably not. If you are only drinking bottled water, it is unlikely that it is providing sufficient fluoride. Most bottled water either does not contain fluoride, or does not contain optimal levels of it. Even if local water supplies are sufficiently fluoridated, home water filter systems can remove some of that fluoride. To help prevent tooth decay, water should contain 0.7 to 1.2 ppm of fluoride.

Be certain to use fluoridated toothpaste. Also check with your dentist to determine if you are receiving enough fluoride. Your dentist can prescribe fluoridated toothpaste or fluoridated mouth rinse.
